The Village by The Kids encourages children to engage with their surroundings playfully and critically by asking them to re-imagine their streets as part of a ‘village’. It engages children in the creative process of co-designing and curating audio walking tours of their community. Using writing and sound art as the primary art forms, children embark on a unique adventure of creation. By having kids author the spaces in which they live, work, and play, The Village by The Kids hopes to foster in them a stronger sense of their capacity to contribute to the future of their communities whilst at the same time allowing them to create worlds that are limited only by their imaginations.

The Village by The Kids, Lalor Park edition sees the kids embark on a quest to find out what a village means and what a good one needs to have in it. They wax lyrical on villages real and imagined, interview several locals, and invite the audience to leave their own mark in the village, all the while attempting to avoid the ire of the village grouch.

The Village by The Kids, Lalor Park was presented by Blacktown Arts and proudly funded by Creative Australia and NSW government through Create NSW and Blacktown City Council.

Co-designed and curated by Bentley, Callum, Fifi, Jet, Lily, Lola, Neveah and Obie from Lalor Park Public School in collaboration with artists, Danielle RG, Nitin Vengurlekar, Nick Wishart and Claudia Chidiac

The Village by The Kids, North Bondi

Made with children from Galilee Primary School

This isn't a traditional audio walk, where you walk to a place and told things about it then move onto the next location. You are going to listen to a story that has been created by The Kids in a make believe village that is home to these fantastical characters. The village we are telling this story in, is North Bondi and it's their actual village. It's where they go get milkshakes after school and fish and chips on the weekend, it's the reserve they meet in and play, it's the place their parents shop for groceries and meat, it's where their school is. It's where we place the story! This village is home to the grumpy Mr Henderson, Jonathan the local butcher, a whole lot of ducks and other animals that get up to mischief when the sun comes down! Listen well because you don't want to miss the details in this story!
